Orange County, CA – August 13, 2025 – AMSG FC’s USL Academy side earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Orange County SC’s USL Championship Academy in a competitive showcase match that demonstrated the club’s progress and growing strength at the academy level.
AMSG opened the scoring in the 35th minute, when Richard Hoang delivered a perfectly timed through ball to Jiro Uchida, who calmly finished in a one-on-one situation to give AMSG the lead. The match remained tightly contested throughout, with AMSG’s defensive unit standing strong against consistent pressure.
Despite their resilience, AMSG conceded in the 90th minute, as OCSC capitalized on a cross that was not fully cleared, allowing their striker to equalize late.
Defensively, AMSG’s back line was outstanding. Captains and center backs Mathias Winum and AJ Meade Tatum led with composure and strength, anchoring a back line that also featured Elias Khawaja and Eren Cinar, who each delivered standout performances in one-on-one duels and defensive battles.
The match also marked a milestone for the academy, as three players – Ayush Ganesh, Josiayah Aemiro, and Ben Berhe – made their USL Academy debuts, gaining valuable experience on a big stage.
“Our players showed tremendous maturity against one of the strongest academy sides in the region,” said Ismaiel Alkayali. “From the quality of our goal to the resilience of our back line, this result shows the growth of AMSG and the pathway we’re building for our players.”
The performance highlighted both the individual talent within the squad and the collective progress of the program as AMSG continues to prepare for top-level tournaments and competitions nationwide.
